Assigning Operations

The Operations Window is used to assign various CNC operations to designs in the Workspace. From the Operations Window, you can assign different operations to specific shapes, control the order the machine processes the operations, adjust an abbreviated set of settings for each operation, and more. Each operation can be toggled on or off, exported into GCode files, and when multiple operations are enabled, be sent to the machine sequentially to begin producing the job output.

Tip: Chain Operations With The Same Tooling

Reduce job time by executing operations one after another if the same tooling can be used for each one.

The same shape or group of shapes can be assigned to multiple operations with different depths, speeds, feeds, and actions; and multiple operations with different depths, speeds, feeds, and actions can be assigned to the shape or group of shapes.

Creating Operations

New operations can be created by selecting the New Operation button. Once the operation is selected, the Operation Settings Editor will open. Individual operation cutting and moving parameters are defined in this window. The options a listed in each Operation Settings Editor window will change depending on the operation mode.

Selected Operation Info and Quick Edits

The Selected Operation Info section found in the lower portion of the Operations window includes information on tooling assigned to that operation and the start/final depth. It's a best practice to review this information to quickly confirm tool selection before starting jobs when sending multiple operations to the machine at one time, and to confirm or update the start/final depths assigned.

Best Practice: Preview Operations

Always use the Preview window before starting any job to:

  • See the order in which operations will be completed
  • Check that your CNC machine will do what you expect and move collision-free
  • Estimate how long a job will take
